On Oct 17, 2008, on the initiation of South Carolina Association of Nepalese (SCAN), almost about less than 100 people were gathered in the city of Spartanburg at the Five Spices Restaurant to celebrate Dashain Party for the Diaspora of Nepalese nationals. This was a greatly successful get together to meet Nepalese in a very historical manner. As the organization SCAN was newly established about four years ago, this kind of gathering means a lot for Nepalese and American people for their cultural milieu, reminiscences, and expansion of friendships in American soil.

On this occasion, new executive body for the SCAN was unanimously elected and established which is mentioned as follows:

President: Ganesh Kumar Basnet
Vice President: Kusum Baral
Secretary: Manish Shakya
Treasurer: Narendra Baral
Rest of the executive members are supposed to be nominated by the newly elected President of the SCAN. Previous President was Mr. Dipendra Lamichhane and the first and founding President was Mr. Pramod Pokharel.

At the ceremony, Dr. Ram C. Baral, Professor from Benedict College, spoke about the importance of SCAN for Nepalese and American people in South Carolina. He emphasized about the need of the organization, SCAN, which will never end for Nepalese and American existence in South Carolina. The SCAN Vice President Kusum Baral explained how the SCAN have had to work creatively to manage this ceremony. Also, she appreciated for all the attendants’ help to succeed the celebration. Newly elected President Mr. Basnet expressed great joy for this new and successful milestone of Nepalese Diaspora which will continue with new creative programs for the future perpetually.

The presence of Dr. Devendra Amatya, Dr. Satish Gupta, Mr. Bimal Karki and several friends and several family members was adding an empowerment for this meticulous gathering. In this Dashain ceremony, all participants enjoyed most fabulous songs and dances. All the couples danced turn by turn which was a most spectacular part.
