For the first time since its inception in 2005, the South Carolina Association of Nepalese organized a grand ‘ Dashain and Tihar Program’ on Saturday October 14, 2006 in the city of Columbia, South Carolina. It was a great event participated by the Nepalese people and the American friends from Columbia, Charleston , Spartanburg, Greenville and also from North Carolina . Besides serving the delicious Nepalese food, the other highlights of the program included the cultural performance, reciting poems, slide shows and documentary about Nepal. Pramod Pokharel, president of the association welcomed the participants of the programs and greeted them on this auspicious occasion of Dashai and Tihar. Speaking on the program, Dr. Ram Baral expressed his greetings and highlighted the need and importance of the Nepalese unity in South Carolina. Prof. Govinda Ghimire also recited the poems and expressed his greetings to the assemblage.Archana Pande, Sudesana Baral, Sabina Ghimire, Susana Pokharel, Sadikshya Budathoki and Anil Pokharel took part in performing various Nepalese dance and songs. A new executive committee was also formed for the following year with Dipendra Lamichhane as President, Kushum Baral as vice President, Jagannath Ghimire as General Secretary and Gaurav Pradhan as a Treasurer.
